Mutanda Lake Resort is perfectly positioned to be within striking distance of the gorilla treks at Nkuringo, Ruhija and Mgahinga in Uganda, and lies near the town of Kisoro. Gorilla trekking is widely considered a once-in-lifetime moment and many trekkers have announced themselves changed for the better after spending an hour these intelligent and emotional primates.
Back at the resort after a day of trekking, your comfortable tent atop a wooden platform will give you stupendous views to the south of the Virunga Mountains and Lake Mutanda. As a bilharzia-free lake, it offers the perfect expansive of fresh water for swimming, canoeing and cruising. Other exciting activities include a visit to Garama Cave to learn more about the ancient culture of the Batwa people, hikes to see golden monkeys in their natural habitat and cruises to Mutanda Island and Kyangushu Island on Lake Mulele. Keen trekkers have plenty of options, too, like a hike to Sabinyo Gorge or a tough climb up Mount Muhavura, from where you can see Lake Edward, Bwindi Impenetrable Forest and the Rwenzori Mountains. Birders will also have a field day spotting grey-crowned cranes, sacred and hadeda ibises, and African spoonbills. Keep your binoculars ready to catch a glimpse of the African clawless otters that live on the shore.
Meals are crafted using fresh herbs and vegetables from the garden and unlimited filtered water is on tap to refill your reusable bottle.
