Our Story

Born in Uganda, Built for the World.

Savannah Explore Africa was born from a simple but powerful belief: that the people who know Africa best should be the ones showing it to the world. We are a Uganda-owned, Kampala-based luxury safari company founded in 2018, crafting extraordinary journeys across East Africa.

Our founder Ben Ndugwa grew up close to Uganda's wild places. The forests, the lakes, the open plains. That closeness became a career and that career became a company. What began as a small guiding operation has grown into a full luxury safari consultancy operating across Uganda, Rwanda, Kenya, Tanzania and Zanzibar.

What has never changed is the founding principle: every journey we build is personal. We do not sell packages. We build experiences, shaped around the individual traveller, tested by people who have done it themselves, and delivered with the warmth that only a locally owned company can offer.

Nearly half of our clients return. The rest come through word of mouth. We think that says more than any award could.

Our team spans Kampala, Kigali and Nairobi. Every member was born and raised in Africa. This is not just our business. This is our life.

Ben Ndugwa

Ben grew up in rural Uganda, drawn early to the wild places that would define his life's work. Over seven years building Savannah Explore Africa, he has personally guided hundreds of guests through Bwindi, the Mara and beyond. His strategic mind, timing safaris around migration peaks and securing premium permits months in advance, is what our clients consistently call transformative. He is the reason most guests come back.

Ritah is the engine behind every seamless safari we operate. She coordinates lodge bookings, permit allocations, driver briefings and client communications with a precision that guests consistently remark on. Martin's eyes miss nothing. With years of experience guiding across Uganda's national parks, he has an intimate knowledge of animal behaviour, seasonal movement patterns and the hidden viewing spots that most guides never find. Sustainability and Conservation

Travel That Gives Back

East Africa's wildlife and communities are the foundation of everything we do. We take that responsibility seriously. Not as a marketing statement but as an operating principle.

Wildlife Conservation

Every gorilla trekking permit we book contributes directly to the Uganda Wildlife Authority and Rwanda Development Board conservation funds. These funds protect habitat, support anti-poaching patrols and enable mountain gorilla population growth. By trekking with us, you are part of that progress.

Community Empowerment

We deliberately select lodges and camps that employ local staff, source food locally and invest revenue into surrounding communities. Our guides are East Africans, trained, certified and fairly paid. A significant portion of every safari dollar stays in the countries our clients visit.

Responsible Travel Practice

We enforce strict wildlife interaction guidelines on every trek and game drive. Small group sizes. No off-road driving in sensitive areas. Minimum distance protocols with all wildlife. We educate our clients before departure so their presence in these ecosystems is a positive one.

No Single-Use Plastic
