What Determines the Cost?
Gorilla trekking has four main cost components. Understanding each one will help you read your estimate accurately.
The gorilla permit is the single biggest variable. Uganda's permit costs $800 per person. Rwanda's is $1,500 per person. Both allow exactly one hour with a habituated gorilla family. The price is set by the national parks authority and is non-negotiable.
Accommodation is the second major driver. Mid-range lodges near Bwindi run $150 to $250 per person per night. Luxury lodges run $350 to $550. Ultra-luxury properties like Clouds Mountain Gorilla Lodge run $600 to $900.
Ground transport covers your private vehicle and driver-guide for all transfers. Budget $80 to $150 per person per day. Park fees and guiding add $50 to $80 per person per day. International flights, visas and insurance are always additional to any operator's quote.
