About this tool

Five countries, one starting point, find yours in under two minutes

Uganda, Rwanda, Kenya, Tanzania and Zanzibar each represent a genuinely distinct East Africa experience. Uganda is for primate lovers: mountain gorillas in Bwindi, chimpanzees in Kibale, tree climbing lions in Queen Elizabeth NP. Rwanda is for those who want premium, refined, conservation led travel close to Kigali's excellent international connections. Kenya is the quintessential East Africa savannah experience, the Masai Mara, Amboseli at sunrise with Kilimanjaro, and Samburu's northern frontier. Tanzania offers the Serengeti's sheer scale, Ngorongoro's extraordinary crater, and Zanzibar just a short flight away. The quiz cuts through the choice paralysis.

How it works

  1. 1Answer five questions about your wildlife priorities, preferred pace, terrain, budget and travel style.
  2. 2The quiz maps your answers to a destination recommendation using weighted logic.
  3. 3Your result includes the recommended starting country with a brief rationale.
  4. 4Gorilla and forest answers map to Uganda or Rwanda; big cat and plains answers map to Kenya or Tanzania; beach answers suggest a Zanzibar extension.
  5. 5You can retake the quiz with different answers to explore alternatives, there is no wrong answer.

Common Questions

Frequently asked

+Can I visit multiple countries in one trip?

Absolutely. Multi-country itineraries are our speciality. Uganda + Rwanda is the classic primate combination. Kenya + Tanzania covers the migration at both ends. Tanzania + Zanzibar is the safari and beach pairing. The full circuit, Uganda + Rwanda + Kenya + Tanzania, is achievable in 16–21 days with internal flights. The quiz identifies your strongest starting point; we design the rest around it.

+Which country is best for first time safari travellers?

Kenya is often the easiest entry point for first timers: excellent infrastructure, English widely spoken, direct flights from most European hubs, and the Masai Mara delivers an immediate, unforgettable game viewing experience. Uganda and Rwanda are increasingly popular first choices for travellers specifically drawn to gorilla trekking. Tanzania's northern circuit is also excellent for first timers and can be paired with Zanzibar for a complete trip.

+Which country offers the best value?

Uganda offers the best value for gorilla trekking ($800 permit vs. Rwanda's $1,500) and has some excellent mid range lodge options. Kenya and Tanzania have a wider range of accommodation tiers and more competition, which drives better value at mid range. Rwanda is premium positioned and doesn't compete on price. Zanzibar has strong value at the mid range beach resort level.

+Is it possible to see the Big Five in all five countries?

Not in all five. Uganda and Rwanda lack the classic open savannah Big Five (lion is rare and rhino absent in most areas). Uganda's Queen Elizabeth NP has lion and elephant; Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary has white rhino. Rwanda has introduced rhino into Akagera NP. Kenya (Masai Mara, Amboseli, Ol Pejeta) and Tanzania (Serengeti, Ngorongoro) offer the full Big Five reliably. Zanzibar has no large game.
